Antique Tekke Turkmen chuval face with six large ''Salor'' turreted guls.
Circa 1880.
Chuval are storage bags used by the Turkmen nomads for the storage of personal items inside the yurt and also for the transport of goods on the backs of camels or horses. They were usually woven in pairs.
A good chuval face that is very well drawn with six large ''Salor'' guls and Tekke chuval guls as secondary guls. The extensive use of cochineal dye gives the superb ground colour. The elem is of the small flowering shrub design. At some time in its history the plain weave back has been removed, making this very suitable for use as a small rug. The drawing using large guls gives an open and spacious feel to the design.
Excellent condition with slight even wear and good pile. There is a slightly faded old repair on the edge of the upper middle gul as can be seen in the images.
