Antique Tekke Turkmen chuval with twelve large 'Salor' turreted guls.
Circa 1880.
Chuval are storage bags used by the Turkmen nomads for the storage of personal items inside the yurt and also for the transport of goods on the backs of camels or horses. They were usually woven in pairs.
A good chuval face at some time in its history the ivory plain weave back has been removed, the face is very well drawn with twelve 'Salor' guls and Tekke chuval guls as secondary guls. The extensive use of cochineal dye gives the superb ground colour. The elem is of the small flowering shrub design.
Good condition with even wear and medium pile, there are a few spots of wear to the sides and ends, and a small nick out of the top edge. (Reflected in the price).
