FAQs

Bohemian glass refers to glassware produced in the regions of Bohemia and Silesia, now part of the Czech Republic, renowned for centuries for master craftsmanship, cutting, and engraving techniques.

Traditional pieces are typically crafted from potash-lead crystal or soda glass, often utilising casing methods to overlay coloured glass onto clear layers before wheel-engraving or acid-etching designs.

Authentic pieces often feature hand-polished pontil marks on the base, crisp wheel-engraved details showing depth and friction marks under magnification, and consistent weight typical of early 20th-century production.

Coloured glassware can be displayed on open shelving, used as accent pieces on dining tables, or integrated into cabinet displays where natural light can highlight the rich hue.

Antique glass should always be hand-washed in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and abrasive sponges to protect the delicate surface and engraving.
