Victorian glassware encompasses a wide range of decorative and utilitarian items produced during the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901), characterised by advancements in press-moulding, vibrant colours, and intricate wheel-engraved or acid-etched motifs.

Antique coloured glass was typically produced by adding metallic oxidessuch as copper, iron, or chromiumto the molten batch. Items were often mouth-blown into moulds or free-blown before being hand-finished and decorated with wheel engraving or gilding.

Authentic pieces often exhibit pontil marks on the base where the glassblowers rod was detached, slight asymmetries typical of handcrafting, and natural wear patterns such as fine base scratches known as shelf wear.

Antique glassware can be displayed within open cabinets or styled on a dining table to introduce rich colour and historical texture, contrasting effectively against minimalist or modern surfaces.

Antique glass should be washed by hand in warm water using a mild, phosphate-free detergent, avoiding abrasive sponges, sudden temperature changes, and dishwashers to protect the delicate surface and integrity of the material.
