Turkmen dowry rugs, often woven by nomadic tribes of Central Asia, served functional and symbolic purposes within tribal alliances and marriage ceremonies, featuring traditional motifs handed down through generations.

These rugs are typically hand-knotted from sheep wool using natural vegetable dyes, featuring a dense pile and cotton or wool foundations.

Authenticity is identified through natural dye variations, hand-spun wool irregularities, specific guls or tribal motifs, and the tightness of the knotting on the reverse side.

An antique tribal rug can be placed as a focal point on neutral hardwood floors, adding warmth, texture, and historical contrast to contemporary minimalist or transitional spaces.

Preserve antique wool rugs by using a breathable carpet underlay, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and vacuuming gently with a suction-only attachment without beater bars.
