FAQs

An 18th century wrythen ale glass is a traditional drinking vessel characterised by its distinct spiral moulded pattern, typically produced during the Georgian period for consuming ale and beer.

These glasses were traditionally hand-blown using lead glass or soda-lime glass, often featuring optical moulding techniques to create the characteristic spiral or ribbed patterns known as wrythen or moulded decoration.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit pontil marks on the base, minor surface imperfections or air bubbles consistent with hand-blown manufacturing, and specific weight and wear patterns appropriate for their age.

Antique glassware can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, styled on open shelving with adequate lighting, or used as focal points on sideboards to add historical texture to contemporary spaces.

Antique glass should be washed strictly by hand using lukewarm water and mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and abrasive materials to protect the delicate historical surface.
