Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An X-frame stool is a seating design featuring crossed legs forming an X shape, inspired by classical Roman curule chairs. During the Regency period in the early nineteenth century, British cabinetmakers revived this form using fine timbers like mahogany and rosewood.

Regency stools were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or rosewood frames, often decorated with carved rosettes, reeding, or brass mounts. Seats were traditional padded cushions finished with webbing and horsehair stuffing, covered in woven textiles or leather.

Authentic Regency stools display hand-cut joinery, original mortise and tenon joints, and subtle irregularities from hand-planed timber. Look for natural oxidisation on dark mahogany frames, hand-turned cross stretchers, and carved decorative roundels at the leg intersections.

A pair of X-frame stools works effectively placed symmetrically at the foot of a bed, positioned beneath a console table, or arranged beside a fireplace hearth to provide flexible occasional seating in a living space.

Maintain mahogany timber by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the wooden frame away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and fabric fading.
