Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Toleware refers to decorative items crafted from painted, lacquered, or enamelled sheet metal, a technique popularised in 18th-century Europe. Toleware chandeliers combine light metalwork with floral or leaf motifs and light-reflecting glass or crystal elements.

Traditional toleware lighting consists of hand-cut or pressed sheet iron or tin coated in paint finishes. Frame components are joined by soldering or small rivets, often embellished with suspended glass droplets and candle-style bulb holders.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural age-related patination, subtle chippings to the paintwork, visible hand-solder joints, and hand-formed sheet metal foliage. Modern reproductions tend to feature uniform spray finishes, heavier cast alloys, and machine-cut glass drops.

A matching pair of light fittings can be hung symmetrically above a long dining table or a central kitchen island to create visual balance. They are also placed in hallways or guest bedrooms to introduce textured metalwork into neutral decor schemes.

Dust the metal frame regularly using a dry, soft bristle brush to clear debris from detailed foliage crevices. Avoid water and harsh chemical cleaners on the painted surfaces to prevent oxidisation and paint loss, wiping glass drops gently with a dry microfibre cloth.
