Pair of late C19th ‘Japanese Imari’ style early C18th design porcelain vases by Samson of Paris .

Highly decorative pair of baluster ovoid vases and dome-top covers in the late C17th / early C18th Japanese Genroku era , Edo period style . The covers surmounted by mythical guardian lion-dogs or Komainu .Painted in the traditional Imari palette of pale and colbalt blues and iron-red enamels , with alternating vignettes or panels of floral and landscape decoration featuring chrysanthemums and peonies .

In excellent original condition with only minor losses to the gilding of the lion-dog finials commensurate with age and handling .

*The French Parisian-based company of “Edme Samson et Cie “ founded in 1845 , were producers of copies of important porcelain wares from Japan, China and Europe to satisfy the demand for fine and rare porcelain from collectors .
