Glorious and majestic upon a glance and regal on all fronts, this pendant/brooch features some of the finest attributes of the late 19th c. French goldsmithing and haute joaillerie.

It is, however, upon closer inspection that its finesse and impressive detailing can be fully appreciated with the craftsmanship matching, if not, exceeding the overall splendour of the piece.

The goldwork features a thick and solid gauge of 18ct gold with fine piercings throughout with each scrolled acanthus leaf forming an overall flower-like design. Imagining the painstaking time and care it would take to ensure such a crisp, accurate and elegant finish is made without any slips or mistakes conveys a tangible sense of the level of craftsmanship on this particular piece.

In addition to its curvature and scrolled acanthus leaf piercing, each part has been finely engraved to add texture to the leaf and a final brushing/stippling of the surface creates a slightly matte and refined lustre to the overall reflection. Such seemingly insignificant embellishments result in an opulent antique gold tone and upon holding the pendant in hand, these minute yet distinguishing qualities can be felt.

The central old-cut diamond (approx 0.6ct) is the final touch that brings the piece all together and draws the eyes to the centre. The diamond glistens wonderfully under sunlight and is well complemented by its rich gold surrounding.

Owing to the pin and bail on the reverse side of the pendant, this article is exceptionally versatile and a delight to wear with a variety of clothing. In the summer, a thinner chain may bring out the best of its floral qualities and for the colder seasons, it may serve as a majestic brooch on a lapel or as a necklace paired with a turtleneck.

Overall, an exceptional and exemplary piece of fine 19th c. French jewellery and ideal as a very special gift or an indulgent personal addition. This pendant would most certainly be a splendid addition for the distinguished antique jewellery lover and an instant conversation starter upon wearing. Perfect as a standalone accessory to accentuate your outfit or among other jewellery.

Diamond is known to be the birthstone of April.

The pendant is marked both on the pin and pendant with the French eagle''s head mark, indicating 750 (18ct) gold purity. Please note the central bail appears to be a later addition, which can be removed by unscrewing, as well as the pin itself.
