It is, however, upon closer inspection that its finesse and impressive detailing can be fully appreciated with the craftsmanship matching, if not, exceeding the overall splendour of the piece. The goldwork features a thick and solid gauge of 18ct gold with fine piercings throughout with each scrolled acanthus leaf forming an overall flower-like design. Imagining the painstaking time and care it would take to ensure such a crisp, accurate and elegant finish is made without any slips or mistakes conveys a tangible sense of the level of craftsmanship on this particular piece. In addition to its curvature and scrolled acanthus leaf piercing, each part has been finely engraved to add texture to the leaf and a final brushing/stippling of the surface creates a slightly matte and refined lustre to the overall reflection.
