A fine 19th century French Louis-Philippe period maple & mahogany bureau bookcase. Shaped moulded sides and cornice above a pair of shaped glazed doors with adjustable shelves, above a bureau section with three leather tooled sets, above the standard configuration of a central drawer and flanked by two drawers to each side, all raised on very elegant hexagonal tapering legs. A wonderful warm colour and patination to the wood. France c.1870

This nineteenth-century French bureau bookcase comes from the Louis-Philippe period. Constructed from maple and mahogany, the piece displays a warm amber tone with visible timber patination throughout. The upper section contains a pair of glazed doors with arched bars enclosing adjustable shelves, positioned beneath shaped moulded sides and a cornice. The lower writing desk section features three leather-tooled inset panels on the top surface, over a kneehole configuration with a central drawer flanked by four smaller drawers. Turned hexagonal tapering legs support the base. It measures 208.5 cm high, 149 cm wide, and 66 cm deep, providing functional display space above a writing area suitable for study or living spaces in a home.
