George III Circa 1760 Georgian Sheraton Walnut & Mahogany Linen Press Wardrobe

18th century
Description

Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this lovely original, fully restored George III Sheraton inlay circa 1760-1780 linen press wardrobe with two over two drawer base

Please note the delivery fee listed is just a guide, it covers within the M25 only for the UK and local Europe only for international, if you would like an accurate quote please send me your postcode and I’ll provide you with the exact price

A very well made and collectable piece, I have never seen one in real life one of this quality, it is absolutely sublime. It is a full sized 7'4 feet tall example, the flamed mahogany and walnut panels are sublime truly the highest quality I have ever seen

The top section has had the shelves removed and a rail put in place so it can be used as a normal wardrobe, the drawers to the base are a very good size and offer huge amounts of storage

My French polisher has sympathetically restored this piece to include washing it back and lightly French polishing it, this has been done in such a way so as to leave all the original patina in place and give it the best colour possible, there will be age and use related patina marks all over consummate with an original 260+ year old cabinet

Please note some of the ring handles are smaller later replacements, I have a restorer who has ordered some replacement rings for me of the right size, as long as they arrive in time I'll have them changed over

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late 18th century, Sheraton style linen presses are characterised by refined proportions, neoclassically inspired marquetry, and rich wood veneers such as mahogany and walnut.

Craftsmen typically utilised mahogany and walnut veneers laid over solid oak or pine frames, employing hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, brass hardware, and intricate oval inlay work.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetails, original pine or oak secondary woods, hand-sawn tool marks on rear panels, and period-appropriate cast brass handles or locks.

Position the piece as a focal point in a bedroom or hallway, pairing its dark wood tones with light neutral wall paint and simple modern accents to balance the visual weight.

Apply high-quality beeswax sparingly once or twice a year along the grain, keep the furniture away from direct heat sources, and dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth.
