FAQs

Bobbin-turning, also known as spool-turning, gained immense popularity during the 17th century in England and America, characterised by cylindrical wood shaping that mimics rows of bobbins or spools.

These pieces are typically constructed from dense hardwoods like English oak or beech, paired with woven natural materials such as cane, rush, or straw for the seats.

Authenticity is determined by examining joinery techniques such as mortise and tenon joints, hand-turned lathe marks, timber patina, and signs of age-related wear on the wood and weaving.

They function well as versatile accents, serving as impromptu side tables, plant stands, or extra seating in living spaces to introduce historic texture and organic warmth.

Preserve the wood by applying microcrystalline wax sparingly, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent timber cracking, and keeping cane hydrated with a damp sponge periodically.
