A Victorian silver mounted scent bottle is a small personal container used during the 19th century to hold liquid perfumes or smelling salts, typically featuring a glass body and a decorative sterling silver cap or collar.

These items were predominantly crafted from blown or moulded coloured glass, such as ruby or cranberry glass, paired with hallmarked sterling silver for the caps, hinged lids, and decorative mounts.

Authentic pieces often feature British sterling silver hallmarks indicating the assay office, date letter, and makers mark, alongside hand-cut facets and period-appropriate chased or embossed silver ornamentation.

These small decorative objects can be displayed on a vanity tray, within a glass cabinet, or on a mantelpiece to add a touch of historical colour and metallic detail to contemporary spaces.

Clean the glass body gently with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap, avoiding harsh chemicals. For the silver mounts, use a specialised silver cloth carefully to prevent polish residue from contacting the glass.
