This Georgian beer jug dates to 1800 and is made of silver-plated copper with a polished silver-coloured finish. The piece stands 19.5 cm high, 22 cm wide, and 14.5 cm deep. It takes the form of a cylindrical vessel with an integrated spout, a stepped domed lid attached with a hinge, an ornate upright finial, and a sweeping scroll handle. A prominent raised moulded girdle encircles the body, dividing the cylindrical upper section from the wider, flared conical base. Faint copper bleeds through the silver plate along the raised edges, and surface wear is present alongside slight gapping to the lid. In a contemporary home, this jug suits placement on a sideboard top or a dining room display cabinet as a decorative accessory or serving vessel. The interior is clean and usable, and the structure retains its original seams beneath the handle and inside the body. The piece reflects traditional English country house style and brings historical character to a period or eclectic interior scheme.

Old Sheffield Plate refers to a manufacturing process discovered in the mid-18th century where a layer of copper was fused between thin layers of sterling silver before being worked into hollowware.

These vessels were crafted using fused copper and silver sheet metal, often featuring cast wire borders and reinforced bases for daily serving use.

Authentic pieces usually display visible copper bleeding through areas of surface wear on the silver layer, along with distinct hand-soldered seam lines and folded edges.

An antique silver jug functions as a decorative focal point displayed on a dining room sideboard, or repurposed as an elegant vessel for botanical arrangements.

Care requires gentle cleaning with non-abrasive silver polish applied using a soft cotton cloth to avoid wearing through the thin outer silver layer.
