Description

A fantastic original Art Deco period copper desk lamp. This was made in England, it dates from the 1930’s.

It is beautifully made from patinated copper we believe, though it may be brass with a very heavy patina. Either way it is a fabulous item, with an adjustable goose neck and nice stepped base.

We have just had this re-wired, it is in good working order and lovely condition for its age.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Art Deco lighting is characterised by streamlined geometric forms, sleek metallic finishes, and a blend of modernist functionality with luxurious industrial aesthetics, prominent during the 1920s and 1930s.

Period desk lamps were typically constructed from durable metals such as brass, copper, bronze, and cast iron, often featuring weighted bases and articulated or flexible metal necks for directional task lighting.

Authentication involves examining construction methods, such as period-appropriate wiring, makers marks or stamps, fastener types like slotted screws, and natural metal patination accumulated over decades of use.

An antique metal lamp functions effectively as a focal task light on a modern wooden desk or as a contrasting industrial accent piece on a minimalist sideboard, pairing well with neutral colour palettes.

Preservation requires gentle dusting with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding harsh chemical polishes that strip the historical patina; original lacquered or oxidized surfaces should be maintained carefully.
