Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A William and Mary table top bureau is a late 17th-century writing slope designed to sit on an existing table or stand. Characterised by a slanted hinged fall-front writing flap, it opens to reveal internal drawers and pigeonholes for organizing letters and stationary.

These bureaux were predominantly crafted from solid English oak using joinery techniques such as hand-cut dovetails and mortise and tenon joints. The fall-front interiors were often lined with leather or velvet writing surfaces and fitted with iron hinges and brass escutcheons.

Authentic William and Mary pieces typically feature geometric applied mouldings, teardrop or brass drop handles, thick hand-sawn drawer linings, and rich, dark original patination. Evidence of hand-planed timber and period-appropriate iron strap hinges also indicate authenticity.

An oak table top bureau can be placed on a contemporary console table or study desk to serve as a functional workstation or decorative organizer. The dark oak timber pairs well with neutral walls, natural textiles, and brass lighting accessories.

Maintain antique oak by dusting with a soft, lint-free cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and extreme humidity fluctuations to prevent the solid wood panels from warping or cracking.
