Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian metalware spans the reign of Queen Victoria, characterised by historic revivalism, intricate machine and hand engraving, and elaborate ornamentation reflecting industrial advancements and changing domestic social rituals.

These pieces typically consist of a base metal such as copper or Britannia metal coated with a layer of silver via electroplating, a technique widely adopted in the mid-19th century, accompanied by applied cast borders and detailed chased engraving.

Authenticity is often verified through British Patent Office registration diamond marks which indicate the exact date of design registration, maker marks, weight, and signs of period wear such as gentle oxidisation and hand-chased detailing.

An antique silver tray provides reflective contrast on modern sideboards or coffee tables, functioning as a surface to group crystal decanters, modern glassware, or seasonal botanicals to bridge historic and contemporary aesthetics.

Preservation requires infrequent cleaning using non-abrasive silver cloths designed for plated items to prevent wearing away the thin silver layer, avoiding harsh chemical dips, and storing in low-humidity environments.
