Napkin rings first appeared in France during the early 19th century as a practical method to identify household members table linens between weekly washes.

These pieces typically consist of a base metal, such as nickel silver or copper, coated with a thin layer of pure silver through electroplating or old Sheffield plating techniques.

Authentic pieces often feature manufacturer hallmarks, maker marks, or specific stampings denoting silver plate quality on the inner rim.

Mixing period accessories with minimalist white porcelain creates an eclectic yet sophisticated tablescape that bridges traditional and modern design.

Clean silver plate gently using a non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth, storing items in anti-tarnish fabric cases when not in use.
