Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French hall lanterns originated as functional lighting fixtures used in the grand entryways and vestibules of European townhouses and chateaux during the 18th and 19th centuries, designed to illuminate high-ceilinged spaces while projecting elegance.

Authentic pieces are typically constructed using cast or stamped brass frames, often with a gilt or ormolu finish, housing curved or convex blown glass panels held together by structural metal ribs and suspension chains.

Authenticity is indicated by heavy, genuine brass construction showing natural oxidisation, hand-blown glass with minor imperfections or bubbles, traditional soldered joints, and period-appropriate wiring or conversion fittings.

These fixtures serve as striking focal points when hung in entryways, stairwells, or hallways, pairing effectively with both minimalist modern decor and traditional architectural details to add warmth and historical contrast.

Clean the glass with a mild glass cleaner applied to a cloth rather than directly on the fixture to protect the metal, and dust the brass gently with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding harsh chemical polishes that can strip the gilt finish.
