Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Italian crystal and gilt chandeliers gained prominence during the Baroque and Rococo periods, originating primarily from Venice and Florence, where master craftsmen combined gilded iron or brass frames with intricately cut glass pendants to maximise light reflection in grand villas.

Authentic pieces are typically constructed with a forged brass or iron frame featuring a gilt finish, wired or pinned with hand-cut lead crystal drops, glass beads, and bobeches suspended from delicate metal chains.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut glass showing minor imperfections or air bubbles, heavy patinated brass or bronze framing, hand-wired connections using traditional techniques, and faceted crystal pendants rather than moulded plastic.

Pairing an ornate period fixture with minimalist or contemporary decor creates a striking focal point, adding textural contrast and sophisticated illumination to a modern dining space or high-ceilinged hallway.

Dust regularly with a feather duster and clean delicate glass elements by hand using a solution of warm water and mild isopropyl alcohol, ensuring the power supply is completely switched off before maintenance.
