Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French Chateau chandelier originates from 1880 and comes in aged brass with a lightly cleaned finish. The piece displays four ornate scrollwork arms, delicate foliate leaves, raised floral rosettes, and a central turned baluster stem terminating in an urn-shaped lower finial with garland decorations. Additional visible details include cast metal candle cups along each branch, looped wire supports, and a hanging chain linking the fixture to the ceiling. The overall structure demonstrates historical conversion for gas lighting and requires appropriate wiring to function with electrical current today. It measures 103 cm high, 91 cm wide, and 91 cm deep. Suitable for suspension from a central ceiling point in a dining room, living area, or hallway, the fixture brings period French character to interior spaces.

FAQs

Traditional French brass chandeliers typically feature elaborate metal scrollwork, foliate motifs such as acanthus leaves, and cast brass arms extending from a central turned column or stem.

Period lighting fixtures were commonly crafted using sand-casting or lost-wax casting techniques in brass, followed by hand-chasing to refine intricate surface details before assembly.

Authentic period pieces display subtle surface wear, hand-chased decorative features, visible casting marks, and uneven patination accumulated in low-relief areas rather than uniform modern plating.

Positioning a cast brass fixture above a contemporary dining table or within an entrance hall creates a focal point, pairing historical metalwork with modern architectural lines.

Dust regularly using a dry, soft microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleansers or abrasive polishes that could strip naturally aged patination.
