FAQs

Standard lamps emerged in the late 19th century as electrification progressed, transitioning from oil-burning floor standards to electric fittings, often featuring elaborate hand-carved woodwork influenced by historical revival styles.

These pieces are typically constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany or oak, utilizing turned shafts, hand-carved detailing, and heavy weighted bases for stability, often fitted with brass lamp holders.

Authenticity is determined by examining the wood grain, hand-carving irregularities, historical wiring updates, patination, and the construction methods used in the base and column joints.

Pair the traditional wooden column with a simple, modern linen drum shade to create a balanced focal point that adds warmth and textural contrast to contemporary spaces.

Maintain the timber by dusting with a soft cloth and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood, while ensuring the electrical components are periodically inspected by a qualified professional.
