Edwardian silver often draws inspiration from earlier periods such as the Rococo and Neoclassical revivals, featuring light, graceful motifs, pierced scrollwork, and delicate openwork designs.

These items were typically crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as casting, piercing, repousse, and chasing, often accompanied by a gilded interior wash known as vermeil.

Authenticity is verified by examining the hallmarks stamped on the metal, which typically include a makers mark, a standard mark for sterling silver, a town assay office mark, and a date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

Such pieces function well as accent objects on dressing tables, mantelpieces, or sideboards, providing a touch of metallic contrast and historical texture to contemporary spaces.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a soft microfiber cloth and specialised silver polish, avoiding harsh abrasive dips that can strip the natural oxidisation from recessed details.
