This 1930s modernist necklace by Jakob Bengel displays an Art Deco style created from chrome and segments of green catalin bakelite with mustard yellow galalith beads. The piece features geometric link chains, polished metallic spheres, and galalith discs alongside mild tarnishing to the centre chrome ball. The composition includes vertical tubular elements, circular clasp hardware, and smooth spherical beads interspersed along the structured arrangement. The necklace measures 3 cm high, 3 cm wide, and 45 cm deep. The piece suits display within a personal collection of period accessories or as wearable vintage jewellery for evening wear and special occasions today.

Art Deco Modernist jewellery from the 1930s reflects the influence of the Bauhaus movement and the Machine Age, featuring clean lines, geometric forms, and industrial materials.

Designers during this era predominantly utilised chrome-plated brass, nickel, tubular metal links, and early synthetic polymers such as Galalith, Bakelite, and Catalin.

Authentic pieces are recognised by unique geometric link constructions, delicate metal tubing, circular spring clasps, and characteristic combinations of chrome with colourful Galalith, though many were unstamped.

The geometric structure and metallic lustre of Modernist pieces complement minimalist contemporary tailoring, high-neck tops, and monochrome dresses.

Store pieces in a dry, temperature-controlled environment away from direct sunlight, and gently wipe metal and Galalith components with a soft, dry microfibre cloth without using liquid chemical cleaners.
