Description

A wonderful pair of solid sterling silver entree dishes made by the great Paul Storr towards the end of the 18th Century.

They have elegant plain styling with a broad gadroon border and high domed covers. The detachable handles feature hooves, perhaps to mirror the family crest which is a rearing stag.

They are hallmarked for London 1792. The marks inside the covers are crisp whilst those below the handles on the bases are a little rubbed but still discernible. One of the bases has 'Storr and Mortimer' on the base. The other base is split into two separate dishes.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian silver spans the reigns of King George I through IV, characterised by classical proportions, neoclassical motifs, and meticulous hand-craftsmanship by master silversmiths.

Items from this era are typically fabricated from sterling silver, often featuring hand-hammered elements, cast mounts, engraved crests, and applied reeded or gadroon borders.

Authenticity is verified through clear hallmarks stamped on the metal, including the makers mark, standard mark, town mark, and duty mark, alongside examination of weight and wear patterns.

These pieces can be used as functional centrepieces on a dining table or displayed on a sideboard to add reflective metallic contrast and historical depth to contemporary interiors.

Silver should be cleaned periodically using non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth, and stored in tarnish-resistant flannel or climate-controlled environments to preserve the finish.
