Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Louis XVI style chest of drawers, dating from around 1900, is made from walnut with a warm brown timber colour and a pink marble surface on top. The piece includes three drawers decorated with chevron parquetry inlay, brass ribbon or swag escutcheons, and delicate stringing details around the drawer fronts. Other visible elements comprise tapered turned legs with brass collars at the top, decorative brass mounts on the upper corners, and brass keyhole hardware. The cabinet stands 82 cm high, 83 cm wide, and 45 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this commode functions well as a storage chest or side table in a bedroom, hallway, or living room. The compact dimensions allow it to fit comfortably against walls or in smaller alcoves while providing useful surface space for lamps or decorative objects. The French chateau design vibe suits traditional and classic interior schemes, bringing a refined period aesthetic to residential spaces without dominating the room layout.

FAQs

The Louis XVI style emerged in France during the late eighteenth century, characteristically rejecting Rococo curves in favour of Neoclassical geometry, straight lines, symmetrical parquetry, and tapered fluted legs.

These commodes typically feature solid oak or pine carcases veneered with fine woods such as walnut, kingwood, or rosewood, topped with natural polished marble slabs and fitted with cast brass or bronze mounts.

Authentic period pieces display hand-sawn timber elements, hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, hand-chased bronze or brass mountings, and unpolished or rough-hewn undersides on the marble top.

Position the piece in a hallway, entryway, or bedroom, pairing its structured wood and marble surfaces with contemporary framed artwork above and minimalist ceramic accessories on top to create a balanced contrast.

Dust the wood veneer regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply beeswax sparingly twice a year. Clean the marble surface using only pH-neutral cleaners, avoiding acidic substances that can etch stone.
