Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often lighter in proportion than Victorian pieces, frequently incorporates neoclassical motifs, satinwood stringing, and airy designs.

Cabinet makers of this era predominantly utilised dense hardwoods such as mahogany and satinwood for frames and marquetry, combined with durable traditional textiles and stuffing for upholstered components.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period construction methods, such as hand-cut dovetailing in drawers, genuine timber ageing, hand-turned legs, and traditional upholstery techniques rather than modern staples.

These versatile pieces function effectively as occasional seating or discreet storage solutions when placed near sofas, at the foot of a bed, or beneath dressing tables to introduce historic texture.

Maintain timber using appropriate beeswax formulations to nourish the grain, and protect textile components from direct sunlight to prevent fading and fibre degradation.
