This late 19th-century Victorian chandelier originates from France around 1880. Formed from gilt bronze and amethyst glass in gold and purple, the fixture contains a circular purple glass dish suspended beneath a pierced metal gallery fitted with eight scrolled candle arms and candlestick-shaped lights. The hanging arrangement includes a central twisted rope-styled bar running from the top to the centre of the glass base, supported by eight metal rope-shaped cords tied into a central overhead mount. The gilt bronze rim contains rams' head decorations and a circular motif between them, finishing with a bottom finial below the glass bowl. The piece measures 88 cm high, 75 cm wide, and 75 cm deep. This light serves as a practical ceiling-suspended illumination source for numerous settings within a home, functioning in both traditional and contemporary interiors. The design suits placement in living spaces, dining rooms, hallways, or bedrooms as a central overhead fixture. The installation requires standard electrical mounting to a ceiling junction box to support the weight of the metal and glass components. The structure distributes ambient light through eight individual candle bulbs positioned across the perimeter gallery.

Late 19th-century chandeliers of this style often feature cast bronze elements finished with gold gilding, paired with coloured or hand-blown glass bowls and shades. Designers during this period frequently drew inspiration from Rococo and Neoclassical revival styles, incorporating intricate relief metalwork, scroll motifs, and candle-style sockets.

These fixtures are constructed using cast bronze or brass, which is gilded via mercury gilding or electroplating to achieve a metallic gold finish. The central bowls or shades typically use blown lead crystal or tinted glass, supported by cast metal chains or rope-twist rods.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit heavy cast bronze construction with hand-chased surface details, visible casting seams inside the frame, and natural patination or slight oxidisation in recessed areas. Many original fixtures also show evidence of conversion from gas or candle power to early electrical wiring.

A fixture of this nature functions effectively as a central lighting feature in entryways, dining spaces, or drawing rooms. Hanging the light against a modern neutral backdrop allows the contrast between the metal gallery and the tinted glass bowl to serve as an architectural focal point.

Regular maintenance involves gentle dusting with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or feather duster. Chemical cleansers, abrasive polishes, and water should be avoided on gilt bronze to prevent stripping the gilded layer, while the glass bowl can be wiped carefully with a damp cloth.
