This is a Victorian sterling silver bowl from 1850 in the English Country House style, made from sterling silver with a silver colour. It stands on four cast scroll feet, features twin loop handles and an unengraved cartouche surrounded by chased scrollwork, flowers, and leaves on the body, accompanied by a bird motif overlooking the cartouche. The bowl measures 19 cm across from handle to handle by 14 cm by 8.5 cm high to the rim. This piece works well placed on a sideboard top in a dining room or living space as a decorative table accent or display piece, holding small decorative items or standing alone. The heavy decoration and traditional form suit period interiors and eclectic table settings alike, adding a polished metallic element to a surface display.

Rococo Revival silver from the mid-19th century is defined by elaborate asymmetrical scrollwork, floral embossing, foliage motifs, and ornate cast handles or feet. Silversmiths drew heavy inspiration from 18th-century French designs, reinterpreting them with heavy relief chasing and dense decorative surface detail.

Silver hollowware pieces from this era were raised from sheet silver by hand hammering and detailed using techniques such as embossing and chasing. Decorative handles, rims, and feet were typically cast separately using the lost-wax process and silver-soldered onto the main body.

Authentic British sterling silver bears a complete set of hallmarks stamped by an official assay office. These include the lion passant for sterling purity, a city mark, a date letter representing 1849, the sovereigns head duty mark, and the registered makers mark.

A Victorian silver bowl functions as a decorative focal point when placed atop a polished wooden dining table, marble sideboard, or dark hallway console. It can be left empty to showcase its internal patina or used to store small trinkets and modern table accents.

Clean sterling silver using a soft microfibre cloth and a non-abrasive silver cream designed for antiques. Avoid submerging hollowware with delicate solder joints in water, and store pieces in tarnish-inhibiting cloth bags to minimize atmospheric oxidisation.
