Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Mid-19th-century Victorian Rococo Revival stools feature serpentine outlines, S-curved cabriole legs, and elaborate hand-carved floral or scroll motifs on the knees and aprons. Influenced by 18th-century French design, these pieces exhibit rich dark timbers with detailed decorative carving.

Victorian craftspeople predominantly used dark hardwoods such as solid rosewood or mahogany, often finished with French polish. Traditional construction involved webbed seat frames stuffed with horsehair, covered in wool tapestry, silk damask, or cotton velvet.

Authentic period pieces display distinct grain variations characteristic of rosewood, hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, and corner blocks beneath the seat frame. Natural age marks, original hand-carved details, and smooth wear on leg terminals also indicate authenticity.

A Victorian stool functions as accent seating alongside a dressing table, as an occasional footstool in a sitting room, or paired beside a bedroom console. Neutral upholstery enables the dark rosewood timber to contrast against modern textured rugs and minimalist walls.

Rosewood should be dusted regularly with a soft cloth and conditioned annually with pure beeswax to prevent timber desiccation. Upholstery requires routine vacuuming on low suction and professional cleaning to protect the textile fibres.
