Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian sterling silver pedestal bowl, dating from 1901 with a Birmingham hallmark and silversmith's mark for Marston & Bayliss, exemplifies English Country House style. The heavy piece is crafted from sterling silver with a bright silver exterior and a contrasting rich gold-coloured gilded interior. Repousse scrolls, a floral cartouche, and detailed embossing decorate the rounded body, which rests securely upon a stepped pedestal foot. Measuring 20 cms across the top by 14.5 cms high to the rim and weighing 600 grams, the bowl makes a distinguished addition to a sideboard top in a dining room or living space for display or holding small items.

FAQs

Edwardian silver, produced between 1901 and 1910, often incorporates refined classical motifs, floral swagging, repousse decoration, and lightweight structural elegance influenced by earlier Georgian and Neoclassical styles.

These bowls were typically crafted from solid sterling silver, stamped with official British hallmarks, and featured raised repousse or chased ornamentation, often completed with a gilded wash interior to protect against acid corrosion.

Authentic pieces carry British hallmarks including the lion passant mark for sterling purity, an assay office symbol, a makers mark, and a specific date letter representing the year of manufacture between 1901 and 1910.

An antique silver pedestal bowl functions effectively as a dining table centrepiece, a vessel for floral arrangements, or a decorative accent on a sideboard or console table.

Dust gently with a soft cotton cloth and polish sparingly using a specialised non-abrasive silver polish, taking care to avoid harsh chemicals on the gilded interior wash.
