This large Victorian ceiling light from the 19th century comprises a domed glass bowl secured by a patinated brass rim and suspended from a linked chain. The clear crystal body displays a geometric diamond-cut pattern across its upper section, a detailed starburst motif at the base, and a weathered bronze finish on the metal fittings. Measuring 20 cm high, 44 cm wide, and 44 cm deep, the unit provides direct overhead illumination. Suitable for installation in a hallway, entrance, or dining room with a high ceiling, the fitting casts a warm glow through its faceted surface. The bronze mounting shows visible signs of natural aging, contrasting with the solid, clear glass construction. Professional electrical testing is recommended prior to use in a domestic interior setting.

A plafonnier is a ceiling-mounted light fixture, typically bowl-shaped, designed to fit flush against or close to the ceiling plane. Originating in 19th-century French lighting design, these fixtures utilise glass bowls to diffuse illumination evenly across an interior room.

Authentic 19th-century plafonniers were crafted using heavy hand-cut lead crystal or molded glass paired with cast brass, bronze, or copper mounting rims and hanging chains.

Authentic period pieces feature sharp geometric hand-cut faceting, natural age patination on metal rims, historical ceiling mount fittings, and occasional hand-blown glass variations or micro-bubbles.

A cut glass plafonnier can be positioned in entrance foyers, hallway corridors, or dining areas to add historical texture, working well when contrasted against contemporary minimalist backgrounds or integrated into classic period schemes.

Dust the exterior regularly using a soft microfiber cloth. For deep cleaning, detach glass elements carefully and wash using warm water with mild PH-neutral soap, avoiding harsh chemicals on patinated brass or metal mountings.
