Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This antique silver cream jug dates from the George V period and follows a Rococo Revival style with an English Country House design vibe. The piece presents a lustrous silver exterior complemented by a warm gold gilt interior finish. Notable details include a lobed baluster body, a wavy crimped rim, a single graceful scroll handle, and three pad feet that elevate the vessel. The visible craftsmanship combines flowing curves with polished metallic surfaces that catch the light from multiple angles. Measuring 11 cm high, 11 cm wide, and 7 cm deep, the jug occupies a modest footprint on any surface. Practical placement options in a home today include the top of a dining room sideboard, a display shelf, or a traditional tea service table where it can hold cream or milk for afternoon gatherings.

FAQs

Silver cream jugs emerged in the eighteenth century alongside the growing popularity of tea and coffee drinking across Europe, serving as specialised hollowware for pouring cream during formal service.

Antique cream jugs were traditionally crafted from sterling silver or silver plate, featuring hand-chased or lobed bodies, cast handles, tripod feet, and gilding on the interior to prevent tarnishing from dairy acids.

Authentic British silver items feature stamped hallmarks indicating the makers mark, silver purity standard, assay office symbol, and date letter indicating the year of manufacture.

A silver cream jug can be displayed on a dining room sideboard, arranged on open kitchen shelving alongside ceramics, or repurposed as a decorative mini vase on a coffee table.

Silver should be polished gently using a specialised silver cloth or non-abrasive polish, stored in low-humidity environments, and washed by hand in warm water with mild soap.
