Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This sprung French stool dates from the 1900 period in the Louis XVI style. It is made from carved wood with a linen blend and cotton upholstery, presenting a multicoloured Chinoiserie print alongside fluted tapered legs, a curved H-stretcher, and a carved frieze. The rectangular piece stands 58 cm high, 90 cm wide, and 43 cm deep. In a contemporary home, the bench suits placement at the foot of the bed or as additional seating in a bedroom or dressing area. The upholstered top features colourful palm trees and monkeys, while the wooden frame displays detailed carving throughout and stands on turned feet.

FAQs

French Louis XVI seating is defined by classical symmetry, rectilinear silhouettes, fluted tapered legs, and carved friezes inspired by Greco-Roman antiquity.

Frames are typically crafted from solid woods such as oak, beech, or walnut, paired with natural fibre webbing, traditional horsehair stuffing, and woven fabric upholstery.

Authentic period pieces display hand-carved joinery, mortise and tenon construction with wooden dowel pegs, and age-consistent wear across the unexposed timber framework.

An upholstered bench serves as occasional seating at the foot of a bed, beneath a hallway console, or alongside living room coffee tables to add texture and historical reference.

Clean timber legs using a dry microfibre cloth and apply natural beeswax sparingly, while vacuuming the upholstery fabric gently with a soft brush attachment.
