This Georgian sterling silver mug originates from the mid eighteenth century, crafted in London in 1754 by silversmith John Swift. The piece has a polished silver finish and takes a classic baluster form, complete with a curved scroll handle and a moulded circular foot base. The metallic body exhibits gentle organic contours and a reflective sheen consistent with its heritage. Measuring 95 mm in height, the mug makes a refined addition to a gentleman's library or study. Today, this vessel serves as an elegant display piece on a sideboard top or as part of a traditional dining collection. The clean metallic lines and period proportions suit both traditional and transitional interior settings. The solid construction and compact dimensions make it practical for placement on open shelving, mantelpieces or display cabinets.

George II silver mugs, created during the reign of King George II (17271760), are distinguished by their baluster or bell-shaped bodies and spreading circular footrings. They often featured double-scroll or capping detail on the handles, reflecting the mid-18th-century transition toward understated elegance and functional form.

These vessels were hand-hammered from sterling silver, which consists of 92.5% pure silver alloyed with copper for structural durability. Handles were typically cast separately and solder-attached, followed by hand-polishing and lathe-finishing.

Authenticity is verified by British hallmark struck on the body or base, including the sovereigns mark, leopards head for London, date letter, sterling lion passant, and makers initials. Weight, visible seam lines, and hand-hammering marks inside the vessel also indicate genuine period construction.

An antique silver mug serves as a refined accents when styled on a mahogany sideboard, a curated bookshelf, or a bar cart. Designers frequently display silver pieces alongside dark timbers, glass stemware, or leather-bound books to create depth and warmth.

Clean silver using a specialized non-abrasive silver polish and a soft microfibre cloth, rubbing gently along the contours to retain the natural patina. Store pieces in anti-tarnish cloth bags in low-humidity environments to prevent rapid oxidisation.
