This Edwardian sterling silver pot pourri box displays a circular form in a bright silver colour with a polished finish. The repoussé band encircling the body shows detailed flowers and leaves, while the pull-off fretwork lid features cast openwork decoration depicting birds amidst floral scrollwork and blossoms. Hallmarks appear on both the body and the lid, alongside clear signs of age including minor softening to the lid hallmarks. The object measures 2.7 cm high, 5 cm wide and 5 cm deep. Historically used for holding rose petals and violets to scent clothes inside wardrobes or drawers, this piece functions well today on a sideboard top or dressing table to hold small keepsakes.

Edwardian sterling silver boxes, crafted between 1901 and 1910, frequently incorporate intricate pierced fretwork, floral repousse patterns, and motifs influenced by Rococo Revival and Art Nouveau styles.

These boxes were constructed with solid sterling silver bases and decorative pierced or perforated lids, allowing fragrance from dried botanical mixtures inside the vessel to disperse freely.

Authentic British Edwardian silver features official assay office marks, including the lion passant for sterling silver, a town mark, a date letter, and a registered makers mark stamped into the metal surface.

An antique silver box functions effectively as a decorative accent on a dressing table, desk, or sideboard top, adding reflective metallic texture alongside contemporary ceramics or books.

Preserve sterling silver by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and occasionally applying a specialised silver polish to remove oxidisation while keeping the silver dry to prevent tarnishing.
