This French silver pendant and chain dates to circa 1880, executed in an Ottoman revival style influenced by the French Moroccan market. The handmade piece is constructed from silver with intricate filigree wirework, decorated with hand-tooled details and brightly set cabochons of red coral and turquoise. The design mirrors an ancient penannular brooch, suspended on a silver curb chain via a small round loop, and is stamped with the French crab mark indicating provincial silver of .800 purity or higher. Measuring 62 cm high, 3.7 cm wide, and 0.8 cm deep, the necklace functions as a wearable antique or collector's piece. The pendant itself can be removed from the chain to be worn in the manner of a traditional brooch. The item suits a variety of historical jewellery collections or period wardrobes today.

Ottoman Revival jewellery emerged in Western Europe during the mid-to-late nineteenth century, influenced by Orientalism and trade with the Near East. These pieces typically feature intricate filigree metalwork, crescent motifs, suspended drops, and colorful cabochon accents replicating traditional Turkish and North African adornments.

Pieces from this era were primarily constructed using sterling or continental grade silver, crafted into fine twisted wires to form delicate filigree lattice patterns. Decorative elements frequently included glass paste cabochons, turquoise, coral, or enamel to provide bold colour contrasts against the silver framework.

Authentic nineteenth-century French silver items typically bear French silver hallmarks, such as the Boars Head or Crab mark for small articles, applied to loops or frames. Construction details such as hand-soldered filigree wirework, period-appropriate spring rings or dog-clip clasps, and soft natural surface oxidisation also indicate genuine period origin.

Beyond wearing on a chain, decorative antique jewellery can be styled as art by displaying it inside a fabric-lined shadow box frame or hanging it on a velvet jewellery stand on a dressing table.

Filigree silver should be cleaned gently using a soft-bristled dry brush or a silver polishing cloth, avoiding liquid dips or harsh chemicals that can dislodge set stones or destroy historic patination. Store the item in an airtight pouch away from moisture to prevent accelerated oxidisation.
