Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of wall sconces dates to 1910 and follows a Rococo design inspired by French chateaux. Each piece consists of a gilt brass frame with elaborate shell and rocaille detailing, acanthus leaf scrolls, and an oval mirrored backplate holding twin candle-style light fittings. The brass has a warm gold finish throughout, and visible details include intricately moulded crests, beaded rims, fluted candleholders, and twisted electrical flex hanging below the left sconce. The mirrors measure 33 cm tall, 20 cm wide, and 10 cm deep. These petite wall-mounted light fixtures suit narrow wall spaces in a hallway, bedroom, or living room, where they provide both ambient lighting and decorative reflection.

FAQs

A girandole is an ornamental wall light featuring a small reflective mirror backplate flanked by candle arms or electric fittings. The Rococo style originated in 18th-century France and is characterised by asymmetric C-scrolls, acanthus foliage, and shell-like rocaille motifs.

Traditional girandoles were constructed from cast brass, bronze, or carved gilded wood. The central panels feature mirror glass, designed to catch and amplify candlelight across period interiors.

Authentic pieces feature cast construction with visible hand-chased details on leaf points and scrollwork. Look for natural surface patination in metal crevices, historic mirror silvering degradation, and early casting marks or structural joins on the reverse.

Girandoles function effectively when mounted in pairs to flank a focal feature such as an entryway mirror, fireplace mantelpiece, or dining room sideboard. The mirrored backplates bounce ambient light and add architectural interest to modern colour palettes.

Clean cast brass surfaces using a dry, soft-bristle brush to remove dust from ornate crevices without disturbing historic patina. Clean glass panels with a lightly dampened microfibre cloth, taking care to avoid moisture contact with electrical components or metal surround edges.
