This solid sterling silver christening mug dates from the 1930 Art Deco period and comes from the Dennison Watch Co, bearing Birmingham hallmarks with the date letter for 1936. The piece displays a reflective polished silver finish across its tapered cylindrical body, wide rim, and raised circular pedestal foot. A distinctive geometric angular handle attaches to the side, complementing the clean lines of the body. Hallmarks stamp the metalwork near the base, while the substantial gauge provides a heavy feel in the hand. The item measures 8 cm in height with a 7 cm rim diameter and a 5 cm base diameter. In a modern home, this silverware piece works well displayed on a sideboard top as a traditional keepsake or decorative accessory, and it also functions practically for small gatherings when used to serve miniature portions or kept on a dressing table for holding small items. The minimalist design incorporates structural mouldings at the base and rim without engraving, focusing attention on the geometric geometry of the handle and the flared silhouette.

Art Deco silver hollowware produced during the 1920s and 1930s is characterised by geometric silhouettes, unadorned polished surfaces, and sharply angled handles that contrast with traditional rounded bodies.

Pieces from this period were wrought from sterling silver containing 92.5 percent pure silver, shaped through spinning or raising metal sheets, and finished with soldered handles and struck assay office hallmarks.

Authenticity is determined by examining the stamped hallmark set, which comprises a makers mark, a lion passant standard mark, a town mark such as the Birmingham anchor, and a date letter denoting the precise year of manufacture.

A small silver vessel functions effectively as a decorative accent on a sideboard, bookshelf, or dressing table, and can also be repurposed to hold small stem flowers or stationery items.

Silver should be cleaned periodically using a gentle, non-abrasive silver polishing cloth or cream, washed in warm water with mild soap, dried completely, and stored away from excess moisture to minimise oxidisation.
