This 19th-century Victorian desk is constructed from rich red brown mahogany and flame mahogany. The rectangular top has rounded front corners and a low gallery backboard enclosing a moulded panel with figured timber. Two frieze drawers sit beneath the top, fitted with round dark wooden pull knobs and drop-pendant finials hanging from the corners. The piece stands on carved C-scroll trestle end supports that terminate in scrolled feet, all united by a central turned stretcher running horizontally between the legs. Practical for daily work, this item serves well as a writing table in a traditional study, home office, or living room space. It provides a flat surface for writing and laptops, alongside concealed storage within the twin drawers. The dimensions measure 122 cm in width, 57 cm in depth, and 93 cm in total height, with a writing surface height of 76 cm and 61 cm of clearance beneath the drawers.

Nineteenth-century writing desks, particularly from the William IV and Victorian eras, often featured rich flame mahogany veneers, gallery backs, carved scroll supports, and shallow frieze drawers designed for stationary.

These pieces were primarily constructed from solid mahogany and decorative mahogany veneers, often incorporating secondary woods such as pine or oak for interior drawer linings, along with solid wood turned knobs.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, original wood grain variations, hand-carved scrollwork or turned stretchers, and natural oxidisation on internal wooden surfaces.

Position the desk against a feature wall or in a dedicated home office, pairing it with neutral upholstery, contemporary lighting, and minimalist accessories to highlight the wood grain.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish periodically to maintain the timbers sheen, keeping the item clear of direct sunlight and radiator heat.
