Charles II furniture, dating from the English Restoration period between 1660 and 1685, typically features solid oak construction, geometric mitred mouldings on drawer fronts, turned brass fittings, and flattened ball or bun feet.

Chests from this era were constructed primarily from native English oak using joinery techniques such as hand-cut dovetail joints, mortise and tenon framing, and side-hung drawer runners recessed into the case walls.

Authentic period pieces exhibit geometric drawer mouldings, original iron or early brass hardware, irregular hand-sawn timber marks, and evidence of long-term oak patination alongside natural timber shrinkage over time.

A Charles II oak chest functions as a grounding element when positioned beneath contemporary abstract art or paired with neutral plaster walls and simple metal lighting to highlight its geometric woodwork.

Preserve period oak by maintaining stable humidity levels away from direct heat sources, dusting with a dry microfibre cloth, and applying a thin coat of clear beeswax once or twice annually.
