These nineteenth-century Georgian and early Victorian earrings consist of a pair of silver drop fixtures with fish hook wires, featuring double clusters of old-cut paste gemstones. Each component displays a pale turquoise aquamarine paste centrepiece surrounded by a halo of sparkling white stones, set within a closed-back setting and arranged in an oval drop motif with a grand Regency design vibe. The photograph shows tarnished silver metal frames, faceted clear paste stones forming the halo patterns, and curved ear wires holding the dangling sections. Measuring 4 cm from the top of the ear wire to the bottom of the drop, with the paste-set section at 2.6 x 1.1 cm, these items weigh 4.9g and exhibit minor surface wear on the stones. They are suited for wear as historic jewellery pieces.

Paste jewellery refers to items constructed using hand-cut, high-lead content glass tailored to simulate the brilliance and colour of natural gemstones. Originating in the 18th century, paste was highly prized by Georgian and Victorian nobility as an art form in its own right rather than a mere substitute.

These pieces were typically constructed from leaded glass paste mounted in silver settings, often featuring gold or silver ear wires. The paste stones were frequently set over metallic foil inside closed backs to enhance light refraction and depth of colour.

Authentic period paste items often feature closed-back settings, crimped collets, hand-cut stone facets, and subtle signs of oxidisation on the metal. Additionally, stones from these eras may display hand-painted dark dots at the base to simulate an open culet.

Antique paste drop earrings provide a sophisticated accent when worn alongside modern evening dresses, tailored suits, or clean-lined monochrome outfits, allowing the historic metalwork and colour to serve as the focal point.

Paste jewellery should never be submerged in liquid, as water can seep into the settings and permanently ruin the underlying foil. Clean gently using a dry, soft lint-free cloth and store in a dry location away from moisture.
