This fine Dutch Rococo bureau dates to circa 1800 and is constructed from walnut and fruitwood with a warm brown finish. The sloping slant front, drawer fronts, and slender cabriole legs display intricate floral inlay and marquetry motifs. Brass handles and brass escutcheons adorn the drawers, which include two short upper drawers and one long lower drawer above a shaped apron. The piece stands 100 cm high, 75 cm wide, and 46 cm deep. Suitable for a gentleman's library or study, this desk provides a practical workspace and surface for writing or correspondence in a traditional or period home. The compact footprint fits neatly against a wall in a living room, hallway, or bedroom while offering surface area for a lamp, small books, or decorative objects. Maintenance involves dusting the wooden surfaces gently with a dry cloth and avoiding harsh chemical polishes to preserve the antique finish.

Dutch floral marquetry originated in the Netherlands during the 17th and 18th centuries, characterised by intricate floral motifs, foliage, and urns inlaid into wood veneers using contrasting timber species.

Craftsmen typically utilised walnut, fruitwood, boxwood, and holly veneers applied over oak framing, completed with hand-cast brass escutcheons and handles.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, uneven veneer thickness, natural age-related shrinkage cracks, and original iron lock mechanisms.

Incorporate the piece into a study or living area as a standalone accent, pairing warm wood tones with minimalist modern seating or neutral wall shades.

Maintain a stable indoor humidity level to prevent veneer lifting, dust regularly with a soft cloth, and apply beeswax sparingly to protect the timber.
