We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

A patience card box is a small, purpose-built container designed to hold miniature playing cards used for playing the solo card game known as patience or solitaire, which gained immense popularity during the Victorian era.

These items were typically crafted from sterling silver using traditional silversmithing techniques such as sheet metal cutting, folding, soldering, and hand-engraving, often featuring maker marks and standard hallmarks stamped into the metal.

Authenticity is verified by examining the hallmarks stamped on the piece, which typically include a makers mark, a standard mark indicating silver purity such as a lion passant, a town mark for the assay office, and a date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

An antique silver card box can be displayed as a refined decorative accent on a bookshelf, coffee table, or mantelpiece, adding a touch of historical interest and metallic texture to modern schemes.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a specialized non-abrasive silver cloth to maintain its patina, avoiding harsh liquid dips that can strip away desirable oxidation and historical wear.
