Edwardian novelty silver pin cushions, popular during the early 20th century, were crafted in numerous whimsical animal and everyday shapes to serve as both functional sewing tools and decorative desk accessories for affluent households.

These pieces typically feature a cast or pressed sterling silver outer body, often shaped into detailed animal figures, fitted with an internal cork or wooden core covered in plush velvet or wool fabric to hold pins.

Authenticity is verified by checking for clear British hallmarks indicating the assay office, date letter, and makers mark (such as Adie & Lovekin), alongside examining the quality of hand-chased surface details and original stuffing.

This small decorative object can be displayed on a dressing table, within a glass cabinet, or on a home office desk to add a touch of historical character and refined metallic texture to the space.

Preservation involves storing the item in a low-humidity environment, avoiding harsh abrasive polishes that can wear away hallmarks or delicate surface chasing, and using a soft microfibre cloth for gentle cleaning.
