This Edwardian silver-plated lidded lunch box by Thomas Bradbury, Sheffield, dates from circa 1900. The piece possesses a bright silver colour and a highly reflective finish. The cylindrical container stands on a dark blue fabric surface and displays a stepped lid topped with a loop handle finial, a horizontal moulding running around the body, and a circular relief medallion on the front depicting a female figure holding an anchor. The base bears the maker mark T.B.&S for Thomas Bradbury along with the letters S.U. The piece measures 12 cm high, 14 cm wide, and 13 cm deep. It functions as a decorative container suitable for display on a sideboard top in a study, library, or living room.

Emerging during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, silver-plated containers were produced as refined storage vessels for food or personal belongings, reflecting modernising domestic standards.

These pieces typically feature a base metal alloy core, such as electroplated nickel silver (EPNS), coated with a thin layer of pure silver via electroplating.

Authentic examples generally feature stamped makers marks, electroplate hallmarks indicating the manufacturer, and characteristic period construction detailing.

Display the vessel on a sideboard, desk, or bookshelf as a functional catch-all container to add metallic contrast within a contemporary scheme.

Polish gently using a soft, non-abrasive cloth and dedicated silver cleaner, avoiding harsh chemicals that may strip the silver layer.
