Victorian silver card cases emerged during the 19th century as essential social accessories for the upper and middle classes during the height of calling card etiquette.

They were typically crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as repousse, chasing, engine-turning, and hand engraving to create intricate decorative motifs.

Authenticity is verified by checking for British hallmarks, including the sterling silver lion passant, the city assay office mark, and the date letter corresponding to the Victorian era.

These small pieces can be displayed on a decorative tray, styled on a bookshelf, or integrated into a tabletop vignette to add historic texture and metallic contrast.

Preserve antique silver by storing it in a tarnish-resistant environment, handling it with clean hands or cotton gloves, and avoiding abrasive polishes that can wear away fine engravings.
