A Victorian silver scent bottle is a small, portable container crafted from sterling silver during the 19th century, designed to hold liquid perfumes or smelling salts.

These items were typically manufactured from sterling silver, often featuring detailed repousse, chased, or engraved surface decoration produced by skilled silversmiths.

Authentic pieces usually bear clear British hallmarks indicating the assay office, date letter, and makers mark, such as those associated with Sampson Morden.

Such decorative objects can be displayed securely on a mantelpiece, dressing table tray, or inside a glass cabinet to highlight their metallic finish and craftsmanship.

Maintain the silver by storing it in a dry environment and cleaning it infrequently with a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage the patina.
