This pair of 18th-century Dutch Delft lamps brings classic earthenware production into a domestic setting. Each urn-shaped ceramic body has a fluted design, decorated in blue and white with hand-painted floral panels and figural scenes, complemented by cast brass mounts, turned metal elements, and stepped bases. The glaze shows gentle crackle patterns across the ceramic surface, contrasting with the warm metallic finish of the brass hardware and the grey tones of the mounted sockets at the top. Measuring 37 cm high, 18 cm wide, and 18 cm deep, these table lamps fit well on a sideboard top or console table in an English Country House interior. They provide functional lighting while adding historic character and traditional ceramic artistry to a living room, hallway, or dining space.

Delftware originated in the Netherlands during the 17th century as a European response to imported Chinese porcelain. Originally created as decorative vases, jars, or urns, many 18th-century pieces were later adapted into electric table lamps during the 19th and 20th centuries.

Authentic Delftware consists of tin-glazed earthenware featuring hand-painted cobalt blue designs over an opaque white glaze. These lamp adaptations usually feature cast brass or bronze mounts, light sockets, and bases to secure the ceramic structure.

Authentic period pieces display hand-painted decorations with slight variations, tin-glazed surfaces showing fine crazing, and reddish-brown earthenware body visible where the glaze has worn. Later conversions often reveal drilled holes at the base or brass fittings attached to original vase necks.

These classic blue and white lighting fixtures suit both traditional and contemporary settings, serving as central focal points on sideboards, consoles, or bedside tables. Pairing them with neutral linen shades helps balance the detailed hand-painted ceramic motifs.

Clean the ceramic body using a soft, dry cloth or a slightly damp microfibre cloth without harsh chemical detergents. Metal components should be wiped dry and protected from excessive moisture to prevent unwanted oxidisation or tarnishing of the patina.
